Product Review: PraiseMoves! A Christain Alternative to Yoga.

Wow is all I can say! I received two DVD’s from Mrs. Laurette Willis and I can absolutely say that I love it! Being a dancer of over 20 years this is the perfect workout I have been looking for. It combines the stretch exercises that I absolutely love and postures that as a dancer my body is accustomed to. I definitely recommend this exercise video. Not only can you work out and get a good stretch (and sweat…whew!)  But also you are reciting scriptures and praising God through each move.

There are so many ways that the body can move and stretch to get a great work out and Laurette has found them! LOL

Why I don’t endorse Yoga or “Christian” Yoga.

A few years ago I suffered the unexpected death of my stepfather (whom I loved dearly) while I was going through a tough, tumultuous divorce. At that time I was adjusting to being a single parent with three children and started to suffer from Anxiety and Panic Disorder with mild depression. My doctor advised me to practice Yoga and told me that it would help me to relax and calm my emotions to help me better manage the sudden attacks.

On the day that I purchased my very first Yoga video the strangest thing happened…As I was sitting on the mat in Indian style with my eyes closed I began to listen to the instructors voice coming from the television set. She then instructed to say, “Om…” and preceded to narrate a guided visual type of experiment?! At that time I felt as though I was having an out of body type of experience and started to see a vision of a shadow in the shape of Buddha with an orange glowing halo surrounding him…I IMMEDIATELY opened my eyes and turned off the DVD!

I then proceeded to the computer to look up the origins of Yoga and what it all entailed…It was amazing what I found out, but I will let Laurette tell you here:

Why A Christian Alternative to Yoga?

I warn everyone if you are a Christian IE. BELIEVER IN CHRIST, I would advise against Yoga and “Christian” Yoga. It is not JUST EXERCISE but a whole hearted religion to the Hindu culture. Buddha (Yoga) to them is like Jesus Christ to us…and I will leave it at that!

Another thing I would like to add is that although Praise Moves is an alternative, it has absolutely NO Yoga stances, postures or movements. Not even the praying hands that Yoga uses. Also remember that although it is GREAT to worship God with movements & dance, DO NOT let it take away from your very own personal relationship with God (Yahweh) or your daily communication with him through bible study!
