Marriage Monday: Reflecting on Our Beginning

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day! I know I did! I would like to take this time to acknowledge the man in my life that God created for me…my husband! Ladies, I don’t know about you but I absolutely love my husband with all of my heart. He made sure that I had the perfect Mother’s Day celebration on yesterday. When I tell you that it was one of the best Mother’s days I have ever had! Honey, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and with everything in me…I LOVE YOU!

Today I looked back at the time my husband and met a little over 5 1/2 years ago and how God bought us together…when I met my husband I was at a place in my life where I felt as if I did not want to be in a relationship with anyone. I use to tell my friends at the time (jokingly) if I were to meet anyone, he would have to fall into my lap because I was not looking. Nor was I going out anywhere to actually be found by anyone…It is amazing how God works because that is exactly what happened when I met my husband Andre’. He basically fell into my lap so to speak…the funny thing about it was I told God that I did not want a relationship with just any man but the man He purposed for me to marry as my husband, only from HIM. I even went to the extent to tell God I did not want a man flirting, asking me for my number, nothing, zilch, nada…UNLESS he was my husband from HIM. So when my husband approached me and was very insistent about meeting me and talking with me I had forgotten what I asked God for. Although I was very attracted to him (Andre’) but had no clue at first what was about to transpire between the two of us. Even on the first day that we talked on the phone, I knew there was something special about this wonderful man! We spent four long hours talking about  life, love and our relationship with our Lord and Savior…it was like a breath of fresh air and I did not want to let him go. We met in December…he proposed in January…we married in March…yes just that fast. God knew exactly what He was doing. Fast forward five years later and our marriage is still like the first day we met…A breath of fresh air with each day taking my breath away~

Marriage is a wonderful thing between a man and a woman that God created to be between the two. In recent events that unfolded and the media’s play upon marriage in today’s society, there is no wonder so many of our Christian marriages are failing. It is time for us as believers in Christ to take back our marriages and fight for what God created between one man and one woman. Let us make a vow to do whatever it takes to nurture our relationships with our spouses through Christ. I challenge you on this day to find that one thing that you love about your husband and nurture that in him today on this day. Reflect on what it is about him that you love and remind him in any way possible that you appreciate all he is doing in your life as your husband.

“And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, he made into a woman, and brought her to the man.” Genesis 2:22

Can you join me in taking the first step towards nurturing our mates today? I would love it if you can. God Bless and continue to pursue Titus 2…

Does Family Bible Study Really Exist

Families are busy these days. With soccer practice, music lessons, and dance class, families are always on the go. It’s hard to fit much more into your already hectic day. Does this mean there isn’t time for family Bible study? The answer should be NO.

The old saying is “Plan your work and work your plan”. This is what you need to do so you will have time for family Bible study. If you plan carefully and around what you are already doing, you will have time for this.

Bible study is important and should be done at least once a day. Family time is also important and should be done on a daily basis. Why not incorporate the two and accomplish both at the same time. It doesn’t matter how old or young your kids are, it should be done.

Working in family Bible study to your busy day can be a challenge, but you can do it if you put your mind to it. Learning how to do it can be even harder. One way to make it work is to make it fun and exciting. Think of ways that will make Bible study fun for your kids, because that’s what’s important.

Here are some ways that will help you add family Bible study to your day.

• Get up earlier

Bible study can take as little as 30 minutes, so getting up 30 minutes earlier than you normally would, will allow you the time needed to do family Bible study. If you have everything ready to go, you can get up and start right away.

• After dinner

Planning your family Bible study for immediately after dinner is an option. You are together for dinner so why not spend the next 30 minutes together for Bible study. When you plan your meal and Bible study back to back, you will have possibly an hour together which is needed for the health of your children.

• Right before bed

Spending time with your children right before bed is a wonderful time. When the children are little, they love to have bedtime stories ready to them. Why not incorporate Bible stories into bedtime. The children will love it and it will be great for family Bible study time.

• Right after work

When you do Bible study right after work, you don’t have to try to fit in during the rest of the evening. Planning your Bible study before dinner will give you the opportunity to relax for the rest of the evening.

Trying to work a Family Bible Study into your busy day can be a challenge. When you plan ahead of time and stick to it, you will be successful with it. Take a couple hours on a Saturday and plan your Bible study for the following week. Make sure you have all the materials you need and have them all organized. Get an expandable folder and put dividers in it for each day of the week. When you do it this way, you will be able to have your study time when it fits in with your family.

Pregnancy Update – How We Are Doing

I know I have not been online in a while but I have been so busy preparing for the new addition to our family. I am down to my last two weeks until baby is here! I am so excited about the things that are in store for our family and we are busy preparing. You would think that after five babies I would be an expert at this by now but I have come to realize that times are different from when I had my first child fifteen years ago. Actually things have changed since I had my youngest three years ago.

For home school we are close to the end of the year so I decided to take a break. We are only concentrating on the “3R’s” LOL Reading, Writing and Arithmetic with nothing in between. At first, I felt a little guilty but since battling with a growing belly, swollen feet, tired and achy legs I figured it would not be  a problem.

Also, I have some great news that I am going to announce on tomorrow. First the winner of the business cards from the UPrinting.com giveaway and a special announcement! May God Bless all of you and keep you.

My Anniversary Weekend: 5 Wonderful Years…

I know I have been MIA for the past couple of weeks but as you know, I have been trying to get moved to a new place and on top of that I am down to my last stretch of pregnancy (six weeks to be exact) and am preparing for her arrival.

This past weekend on March 31, 2012, my husband and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary! WooHoo! We had a wonderfully frugal time together…LOL If you think that you can not do anything together n a budget then think again!

We started the day with a scrumptious breakfast with the little ones and a day of family playing (my older children spent the weekend with gramdma back in my hometown) yet my 4 year old and 3 year old were with us. We got ourselves dressed in white and strolled over to my sister in law’s house (who conveniently lives across the street) and took some anniversary/maternity/family pictures. Did I mention she is a FABULOUS photographer too?!

My wonderful sister in law offered to watch the kiddos while my hubby and I went out for my favorite pregnancy craving right now of Mexican food! (Yummy) After dinner we picked up the kids and went home to put them to bed and snuggled on the couch to watch a movie on Netflix! (Gotta love Netflix)

Our Anniversary was wonderful considering the fact that we only had a limited amount of money to spend and with all that we did all we spent was a total of $25.00 in all! A full dinner and dessert…I was absolutely amazed! But then again God is amazing!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO MY HUSBAND! I LOVE YOU AND THANK YOU FOR BEING A MAN AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART!

Starting Over

I wanted to start today by being transparent with all of you today. My family and I have been on a season of unemployment for the past two years and it was a rough ride I tell you. Going from hubby’s income and position as a Quality Assurance Supervisor (with a nice salary) to becoming unemployed abruptly due to a company wide lay off was really hard on our family. At the time we were getting ready to close on our first home and I had just given birth to our daughter…then it happened,  my husband got his walking papers and therefore we could not complete the process.

I was devastated…but through it all, I have learned that God does things in a way to make you realize what is most important in your life. The lesson that Abba has taught me has been, no matter what your income level is or what status or title you may have…HE is still God and He loves us very much and will provide our every need.

Fast forward…This week we got some exciting news!

We had applied for housing assistance (hubby is also a veteran) in my husband’s home town and received a call on Wednesday that they have a four bedroom home, completely renovated and remolded and ready for us and we can move in whenever we would like…*faints* I could not believe the words that I was hearing! Not only will we only be spending one fourth of what we are paying now for rent but it is one whole bedroom more! Praise Yahweh for His provision!

With that said I now understand what Abba is doing in our lives and what his plans are for my family. Not only did this “season” of unemployment help bring our family closer together but it made us look at everything in a different perspective.

We have been “that” family who experienced not having food.

We have been “that” family who experienced being homeless (for two weeks).

We have been “that” family who experienced not knowing how we were going to pay the next month’s rent.

We have been “that” family who experienced needing to buy my children shoes because they had holes in them.

We have been “that” family who experienced not having a dime to our names.

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Matthew 6:34

Yet…all in all, God has been faithful to us and for that I give Him my entire praise!

More to come about our transition…so stay tuned!

Raising Toddlers: A Mommy’s Guide to Teaching Manners

For one reason or another many people don’t think that teaching toddlers manners is that important. However, if you want to raise a well-mannered child then you must start when they are little. This is because toddlers learn things so easily. In fact, many of the things toddlers learn will naturally become automatic as they get older, which is precisely what you want when teaching good manners!

Now that we know why teaching manners to toddlers is important, how do we go about doing it? The first thing you need to do is to show your toddler what good manners are. For example, when your toddler gives you something of his, always say “Thank You,” and when you give something to your toddler always ask, “What do you say?” and then answer your question if he doesn’t. Teaching toddlers manners is all about constant repetition. Eventually your little one will catch on and begin to say “please,” “thank you” and “you’re welcome” all on his own. Other types of manners that your toddler will pick up on by being shown are table manners. Make a point to sit down as a family and work on table etiquette with your toddler. Obviously, he can’t do everything perfectly, but he can learn to eat with utensils and not throw his food on the floor.

Another way to teach good manners is through play. For example, play dates are great for teaching toddlers how to respectfully interact with others. It’s probably no surprise to you, but many toddlers struggle with sharing. However, play dates will give you the perfect opportunity to teach your child how to share. You can also teach your toddler to say, “I’m sorry” when he does something wrong to another child. Again, it is important that you are consistent with your efforts and work on instilling manners at every play date you attend.

In conclusion, there really is not an exact “guide” for you to follow when teaching a toddler good manners. You will learn what works and what doesn’t through trial and error, but the most important thing is that you are consistent with what works. Your toddler will learn and begin to demonstrate good manners when he is constantly exposed to them. Therefore, the key to teaching good manners is to always be consistent with your efforts!
